Rabat- In an unprecedented escalation, the National Coordination of Teachers holding BA and MA degrees in Morocco organized the march of death Thursday in Rabat.
This march is very symbolic and challenges the government's neglect of teachers who have been demonstrating for over forty days. The six thousand Moroccan teachers walked in the streets of Rabat wearing shrouds announcing the demise of the Moroccan educational system.
In addition to the bare foot march and hunger strike, the march was a response to the latest ministry press release and what some teachers describe as “the tyranny of the government.”
The National Coordination, which has been on strike since November 13, is continuing its peaceful protest during the mid-term vacation to demand the teachers’ legal rights in earning promotions, similar to their previous colleagues.
It also called on teachers to boycott the exam schedule to take place on January 27, which the Ministry of Education has deemed necessary for scale promotion.
Several thousands of teachers nationwide are staging a massive march tomorrow in Rabat to support the National Coordination of BA and MA holders. This march also sends a clear message against the disregard of the Ministry, which delayed its meeting with the teachers' unions twice.
