Moroccan-French politician Rachida Dati allegedly converts to Christianity

Casablanca- According to French magazine VSD, France’s former Minister of Justice and current Mayor of the 7th "arrondissement" of Paris, the Moroccan-French Rachida Dati, has allegedly converted to Christianity.

“Divine revelation or fishing for electoral votes?” reads the lead of VSD’s recent article on Rachida Dati’s alleged conversion to Christianity.

Entitled “The Last Crusade,” the French magazine’s article probes Dati’s recent movements and statements, which seem to suggest that she has converted to Christianity.

According to VSD, the Mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris does not miss any opportunity to get close to the Church. “On December 15, she was at Sainte-Clotilde church, and a couple of weeks earlier at Saint-Jean and Saint-François-Xavier churches,” writes the magazine.

VSD also cites Dati’s statements published in the weekly catholic magazine La Vie, in which she talks about the Christian roots of Europe. “Recognizing our Christian roots does not oppose secularism,” VSD quotes Dati, “Faith plays an important role in our society and in the lives of many of our citizens.”

According to the same source, Dati, along with her daughter Zohra and some students from the Dignitatis Humanae Catholic Institute, flew to the Vatican Palace, where they met with Pope Francis.

Interviewed on her conversion by the Spanish version of Vanity Fair Magazine, Dati stated, “I grew up at Chalon-sur-Saone and went to a Catholic school…and went to the Mess every morning. Some of my friends think religion is painful. Not me!”

The French Magazine VSD puts a question mark on Dati’s conversion, wondering whether she has really gone the Christ’s path or has just decided to use the same strategy she had used in 2008 to secure the mayorship of the 7th arrondissement in the upcoming elections.

Rachida Dati was born to a Moroccan father and an Algerian mother, and was thus the first politician born to Maghrebean immigrants to hold the position of a minister in the French government. Former French President Nicolas Sakrozy appointed her Minister of Justice after he had won the presidential elections of 2007.

The identity of the father of her daughter, Zohra, has never been identified. Dati was said to have had eight boyfriends, including former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar when she fell pregnant with her child. However, she seems to have chosen to be a single mother and raise her daughter on her own.
