Rabat- Judiciary police have arrested a French national on Saturday after he assaulted a group of policemen in the city of Kenitra.
According to the Moroccan daily Al Massae in its edition of Monday, the police decided to tow the man’s car after he parked in a no-parking zone. However, instead of complying with the police instruction, the man started throwing insults and yelling at the policemen.
The same source went on to add that the authorities were somehow “hesitant” to act against the French man despite the latter’s behavior towards them.
The man, who runs a real estate agency in Kenitra, declined the police’s offer to provide them with his driving license and insurance.
The Frenchman, who was not in possession of his papers, instead kept insulting and threatening the men in uniform that he would report the incident to the French Ambassador to Rabat.
Passerbyers who were present at the time of the incident were surprised to see the man leaving without being charged of anything and they expressed their anger regarding the double-standard manner in which the police handled the situation.
As soon as notified, the Kenitra police chief, who had been reported to be very angry over the fact of releasing the Frenchman with no charges, had immediately issued orders to arrest the man in question and to confiscate his car, especially after one traffic policeman decided to sue the French for insulting him while doing his job.
