Rabat- Former Moroccan international football player Salahdeddine Bassir said in an interview with news website Hespress on Saturday that he was surprised when it came to his knowledge that he had been sacked by Raja Casablanca president Mohammed Boudrika.
Bassir said that he had not been told in person about the decision, but rather received the news through the official website of the club.
“I was just as surprised as everybody else when I found out about the President’s decision,” Bassir said.
The former Raja Casablanca player said that the reason behind Boudrika’s decision to freeze his membership inside the club’s executive office is the same topic the media has been reporting, certain requests that Bassir had supposedly submitted to King Mohammed VI, which reportedly have upset the President and his entourage.
Bassir confirmed the news that had been circulating earlier that he had requested a royal gift. He said that in the wake of Raja’s outstanding performance in the Club World Cup in which the team ended the tournament as a runner up, he had asked the king for a piece of land.
“I am not going to deny that I submitted a request for a plot of land to the king who is known for his generosity towards his countrymen. But I didn’t’t think it would cause any harm to the club’s interest or that it would jeopardize my position inside the green castle,” Bassir added.
Bassir’s move has been described by some as “greedy.”
