Sidi Ifni, Morocco- According to the daily Assabah newspaper, police authorities in Rabat have dismantled a crime network specializing in forging administrative documents, including passports, for Moroccan girls who are willing to work in the Gulf.

After the Embassy of Saudi Arabia alerted the Moroccan authorities to young girls’ use of fake documents to travel to Gulf countries, the Moroccan Interior Ministry began to trace the traffickers.

The same source added that a man had been arrested on forgery charges at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport. After an investigation, the man admitted to forging documents and named six other men involved in the forgeries, as well as several women.

After this development, the National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ) began to investigate and arrest more people allegedly implicated in the crime.

According to the police, birth certificates were among the counterfeit documents. Girls have allegedly used such documents in order to emigrate to Gulf countries and marry Saudi men.

Members of the criminal network apparently convinced the girls to pay for the counterfeit papers by promising them a good future in the Gulf countries.

According to MAP, this kind of crime has recently multiplied. It is particularly rampant in Rabat where document traffickers make significant money from exploiting young girls.
