Taroudant, Morocco-Morocco ranks 81st in the world in the 2014 Environmental Performance Index (EPI)
According to the Environmental Performance Index released in January 2014, Morocco is ranked 81st in the world for 2013, advancing 28 places compared to 2012.
Morocco gained 6.66% over the last ten years, with an overall score of 51.89 / 100.
The kingdom obtained the best scores in the category of forest (100) and air quality (98,85), ranking first and 14th respectively.
However, it performed poorly in terms of Agriculture, Biodiversity and Habitat, and Health Impacts (Child Mortality) ranking 161, 134 and 103 respectively.
The highest ranking in the North African countries goes to Tunisia, 52nd with an overall score of 58.99, while Algeria and Mauritania are ranked behind Morocco, 92nd and 165th respectively.
Switzerland once again landed in the top spot of the 2014 EPI.
The EPI is determined by calculating and aggregating 20 indicators reflecting national-wide environmental data.
The EPI ranks how well countries perform on high-priority environmental issues in two broad policy areas: protection of human health from environmental harm and protection of ecosystems.
According to the The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) published on January 27, 2014, Morocco placed “within the ‘good’ rating category,” coming in at 15th place globally and 1st place in Africa and the Arab world.
