Rabat - The electronic version of “Journal du Dimanche” (JDD) recently featured the tour of King Mohamed VI in Africa and devoted a show to Morocco in its column “Le Grand Angle Diplomatic" by François Clemenceau, the editor of the International Service of the JDD.
Echoing the royal tour in Africa, JDD presented a show entitled "A New King for Africa?" Beginning in Mali, the show surveyed Morocco’s renewed diplomatic and economic activities in the whole African continent, as well as in the Middle East, since Morocco adopted its new constitution in July 2011.
The French editor highlighted the role that Morocco plays now, especially through its contributions to international efforts to resolve crises in Africa.
The focus is especially on military and logistical assistance granted by Morocco to France in crisis management in Mali and the Central African Republic.
In addition, the show noted the contribution of Morocco alongside the United States in the mediation efforts aimed at establishing Israeli-Palestinian peace.
King Mohammed VI is particularly keen to propel the Kingdom forward as a leading actor in the region. In this context, the show noted the United States’ invitation to the kingdom to take part in the first US-Africa summit, scheduled for this summer in the United States.
The show focused on Morocco’s efforts to position itself as a means to facilitate development in Africa. For example, the show highlighted that Morocco has cancelled the debts of several poor African countries and exempted them from Morocco’s customs duties since 2000. Morocco has also made a significant investment, in several sectors, mainly banking, telecom, insurance, and mining.
