Rabat: Preview of next week’s Cultural Events

Rabat Celebrates a Century as the Capital of Morocco

Rabat - Every Monday, Morocco World News offers its readers a listing of upcoming cultural events during the next week in Rabat.

The last week of February in Rabat features a plethora of very interesting and diverse events, starting out with Israeli Apartheid Week, a week of sport, the screening of the Moroccan movie Saga, meetings with authors, musical concerts of Opera, R&B, Amazigh  and “Beldi”, an American Party and a Ladies night, as well as many other interesting events.

Israeli Apartheid Week

The students of Justice for Palestine Club are organizing an “Israeli Apartheid Week” for the first time in Morocco.  This event will take place from February 24th to Mars 1st at EGe, Rabat, near Avenue Mohamed Ben Abdellah Erregragui.

Israeli Apartheid Week is an annual series of international events which take place in a multitude of university cities and campuses all around the world. It aims to raise awareness of the apartheid system practiced by Israel, and to promote solidarity with and support for the Palestinian cause.

The program includes a week long photo exhibition of Asmaa Seba’s artwork, a lecture on the theme: “The Palestinian struggle for international awareness”, a screening of the movie: “Where should the birds fly”, followed by a discussion, and a theater workshop led by play director Naima Zitan.  Also scheduled is a Meet & Greet session for Moroccan students and activists who have had experiences in Palestine and with Palestinian students and activists residing in Morocco.

Week of Sport

Dounya Alaoui will organize the week of sport on Monday, February 24th at Rabat Institute-Rabat.

Sports will include ping-pong, volley-ball, hand ball, and football.

Screening of the Moroccan Film «Saga, l'histoire des hommes qui ne reviennent jamais»

This Film is directed by Othman Naciri and stars Fehd Benchemsi, Mourad Zaoui, Said Bey and Omar Lotfi.

The movie highlights the story of Ali, a handsome boy, and his brother, Said, a miserable delinquent bruised and beaten up by life. A meetingof the two brothers turns sour! At once sworn enemies ready to blow each other’s brains out, they become (within 48 hours) the best friends on earth.

The screening will take place on Tuesday, February 25th, at 7:30 pm in the Cultural center La Renaissance.

Meeting with Sophia Hadi the author of “La Chute”

Les Amis du Café Littéraire, la Section culturelle de lUSM, lAPELL and  le Bistrot du Piétri are organizing a meeting with the author of«La Chute,» Sophia Hadi.

In this meeting Sophia will talk about her adaptation to the theater of Albert CAMUS's fall. This meeting will be moderated by Kenza Sefrioui.

The event be held on Tuesday, Feb 25th at 06:30 pm in Le Bistrot du Pietri – Rabat.

Admission is Free.

Concert featuring Gerhardt, Fayçal Azizi & K'lma

 For lovers of music in Rabat, Fayçal Azizi takes back the microphone. This time he returns with his first group K' lma alongside the Dutch artist Gerhardt in a live concert in Rabat.

This event proves once more, that music creates unity and brings people togetherdespite borders, distances and cultural differences.

This concert will be performed on three successive evenings, beginning Wednesday, February 26th at 07:30 pm in Riad Dabajar't, with a second performance the following day at 08:30 pm in the Centre Culturel Renaissance – Rabat.  It closes on Friday, Feb 28th at 9 pm at the Cotton Club in Rabat.

The ticket price is MAD 50 and 25 for students

Be performed on Wednesday, 26th Feb at 7 pm in Theatre Mohamed V –Rabat

Great Theaters of Italian Opera

The director of Opera Jean-Marc Biskup presents for lovers of Opera "Great theaters of Opera of Italy": history, art and success from Fenice, to San Carlo alla Scala.

This event will be held on Wednesday, Feb 26th at 6:30 pm in the Italian Cultural Institute-Rabat.

Meeting with Muriel de Saint-Sauveur

Also on Wednesday, Feb 26, in Rabat is a meeting with the author of “Un monde féminin serait-il meilleur?” Muriel de Saint-Sauveur.

Muriel, after he interviewed 33 women worldwide, he will try to answer in this meeting on the questions; "what would it look like our planet if the women were in charge? Would it be different? And what would change in our lives? "

This meeting will take place at 6:30pm in the French Institute-Rabat

Amazigh concert: Angham Sous

The national theatre Mohamed V will be the scene of a concert of Amazigh music, where Aicha Tachinouit, Rais Hussin Amerrakchi and Rais Salah Oubacha will perform for fans of Berber music.

This concert will take place on Thursday, Feb 27th at 8pm.

Cirque: Ambouctou

The national school of Cirque Shems’y will present Ambouctou: Dinner entertainment of cirque, under the capital of Mawsim, Kasbah of Gnaouas Sidi Moussa.

This show will be held on Friday, Feb 28th at 8 pm in Cirque Shems'y- Sale.

R&B Concert

Mr. Vasquez (Hammadi Boujmal) & Dr. Foulon (Thibault Foulon) will perform in an R&B concert, singing duets accompanied by guitar and kit drums.

This will take place from Feb 26th to 28th at 7:30 pm in Riad Dabajar't – Rabat.

Hammadi is a composer, producer and musician living United States where has done several productions and collaborations.

And Thibault is a drummer who studied music in Geneva and Paris. He has done many tours in France, in Canada and in Germany.

Concert of Ensemble Moulay Cherif El Hamri-Rachidia

Celebrating the year of Africa, the ONA foundation organizes a series of concerts "African Rhythms" in the Villa of the Arts of Rabat.

On Friday, Feb 28th it will present a concert of the Essemble Of Moulay Cherif El Hamri of Rachidia, which plays “Beldi” music.

“Beldi” is a musical genre of the region of the Tafilalt, arisen from a learned mixture between the various artistic expressions of this beautiful rich region by its natural diversity.

The rhythms of this music are a wonderful mixture of the folk songs of the Atlas and the rhythms of the oriental desert merged in the elegant style of the Malhoun which takes place in the Oud,  Sintîr,  Darbouka, Tara, and in kllal.

This concert will be performed On Friday at 8:30 pm in Villa des Arts De Rabat.

American Party

March 1 is a special night in Rabat. American Pubs/Clubs in Rabat welcome you with 800 other revelers for an American musical evenings! Professional bartenders will take care of the bar, while you enjoy a selection of 100 greatest U.S. hits mixed by DJ SAX-M.

The party is being organized by SMOG Events on Saturday, March 1st at R-Louge/ Sofia Palace.

The tickets price is MAD 150.

Ladies Night

Also on 1st March, Saturday night, Master CLUB is organizing a Ladies Night. LAYALI ZAMAN honors women at this special "Ladies Night.”

The Master Club will offer the ladies of Rabat a gray night out with high level DJ’s.

This special night will kick off at 6 pm at LAYALI ZAMAN-Rabat.
