An earthquake of low magnitude has shaken the city of Khenifra in the middle atlas mountains on Friday morning, according to the National Institute of Geo – physics. The tremor was of magnitude 4,5.
On 14 April 2013, an earthquake of similar magnitude struck the province of Azrou and Ifrane, Imouzzer. Another earthquake of low magnitude struck the cities of Rabat, Fez, Sefrou, Sale, Meknes, Tangier, Sidi Kacem and Ouazzan on February 18, 2012.
The last time an earthquake of high magnitude took place in Morocco, was on 24 February 2004 when the city of Al Houceima, in the north of the country was shaken by a tremor of magnitude 6,4 MI.
At least 628 people were killed, 926 injured, 2,539 homes destroyed and more than 15,000 people were left homeless.
