Casablanca - The President of the Democratic Organization of Labor, Mr. Ali Lotfi, released alarming facts on Tuesday in Rabat showing that a number of Moroccan families have been illegally detaining their foreign housemaids’ passports, according to news website Le360.
On March 11, at a workshop on the social integration of immigrants held at an international conference on the integration of immigrants, organized by the Moroccan Ministry of Moroccans Living Abroad, the President of the Democratic Organization of Labor stated that 45 passports belonging to foreign housemaids working in Morocco had been detained by the Moroccan families who hired them.
According to Mr. Lotfi, most of the foreign housemaids whose passports were detained by their Moroccan employers are from the Philippines.
Mr. Lotfi also said that the Democratic Organization of Labor managed to return 42 of the detained passports to the foreign housemaids.
Other Filipino housemaids are still striving to get their passports back. In total, 55 complaints were lodged by foreign housemaids against their Moroccan employers.
