The Ministry of Health denied on last Thursday “the detection of any Coronavirus infections in Morocco, contrary to the misinformation disseminated by some media sources a few days days ago.”
Coronavirus infects both humans and animals, and usually induces mild to moderate upper-respiratory illness. However, some Coronaviruses, since the virus ramifies into different types, can also cause severe illness in certain cases.
The Ministry of Health’s response came in reaction to some media reportson the detection of a case of Coronavirus infection in a foreign citizen who entered Morocco in recent days.
“The Ministry of Health assures the public that the foreign man in question was a 67-year-old patient from the United Arab Emirates, who was hospitalized on May 27 in a hospital in Rabat due to mere respiratory issues,” affirmed the ministry in a statement.
A virological investigation at the Pasteur Institute in Morocco, on May 29, has ruled out any claim of a Coronavirus infection.
To date, official health services in the Morocco have reported no cases of respiratory infection pertaining to Coronavirus.
But measures and devices of epidemiological surveillance, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), are currently implemented in all regions of Morocco to control and report any severe respiratory infections typical of Coronavirus.
