Melilla- Moroccan Sentenced to 7 years in Prison for Illegal Immigration

Casablanca - A court in Melilla, a Spanish enclave in northern Morocco, sentenced a Moroccan citizen to 7 years in prison on Monday for allegedly assisting in illegal immigration and human trafficking.

In exchange of important sums of money, the Moroccan suspect used to hide clandestine immigrants in cars to help them cross the Bni Anssar border and enter Melilla, according to Spanish press.

The Moroccan suspect allegedly received MAD 23.000 from a Somali immigrant and MAD 5,400 from a Guinean immigrant in order to help them enter Melilla.

According to Spanish website El Faro Digital, the Moroccan suspect was a member of a criminal network specialized in illegal immigration, which was dismantled in 2013.

The suspect had allegedly denied affiliation with the network until one of his relatives confessed the opposite.
