France has recently authorized the use of cannabis for pharmaceutical use.
France thus joins the camp of countries having legalized the use of cannabis for medical purposes, namely Belgium, Germany, Canada, Spain, the U.S., Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland and Israel.
Scientifically, the active substance in cannabis, the THC, has been proven effective in alleviating pain for incurable and painful illnesses, such as muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis disease.
Cannabis has also been proven useful for restoring the appetite of AIDS patients and for palliating nausea in patients undergoing chemotherapy.
According to the the French magazine le Nouvel Observateur, Researchers from Inserm Unit u624 in Marseille (France) have confirmed that the THC substance in cannabis helps to destroy cancer cells and tumors. There seems to exist a cannabinoid receptor in the brain (CB2) which, when stimulated by THC, operates a disintegration of cancerous tumors, according to the same source.
Furthermore, studies in Complutense University in Madrid (Spain) proved that THC kills cancerous cells by stimulating an autophagy, which basically stands for a degradation of unnecessary or dysfunctional cells.
