Marrakech- The director of Belghazi Primary School, in Hay Bab Al Khukha in Fez, was arrested last Thursday on accusations of drug trafficking.

The judicial police arrested the school’s director after others whom they had apprehended on suspicion of drug trafficking claimed that he was also involved, according to Al Massaa daily.

In a statement to Al Massaa, the head of the Association of Educational Institution Managers, Mohammed El Nemli, warned against making such arrests upon rumor. He said, “officials should be sure before executing warrants of arrest for the directors of educational institutions.”

A number of students looked frightened as they witnessed the arrest of the director when security agents put handcuffs on his hands and led him away to their police car, according to the same source.

The security agents reportedly claimed that they had sent the director a summon to appear before the security department after his name had been mentioned in connection with drug trafficking.

However, the director did not report to the security department within the requisite time frame, leading the public prosecutor to order the police to arrest him.

The head of the Association of Educational Institution Managers said, in a statement to Al Massaa, that this incident might be related to an attempt at extortion suffered by the director, due to his engagement in an institution located in a difficult neighborhood in the city.
