New York - The Moroccan Ambassador to the United States, Rachad Bouhlal, has been named 'Arab Ambassador of the Year' by the National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce.
The Moroccan diplomat, who was named Ambassador to Washington in 2011, will be honored during a luncheon gala that will be held on Friday December 12 at the Willard Intercontinental hotel in Washington D.C.
Before being appointed by King Mohammed VI in November 2011, Rachad Bouhlah had served in a number of key capitals and held important positions within the Ministry of foreign affairs.
After a 20-year career at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ambassador Bouhlal was appointed by King Hassan II Morocco’s Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as the country's Representative to the European Communities. In 1999, he became Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. In 2004, Mr. Bouhlal was appointed Morocco’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
NUSACC’s “Ambassador of the Year” is now in its tenth year. Last year, it was awarded to the former Qatari Ambassador to Washington, Mr. Mohamed Ben Abdullah Al-Rumaihi.
In its previous editions, the ward was bestowed on Ambassadors from Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Libya Qatar and Tunisia.
This unique in-its-kind award recognizes Arab Ambassadors to the United States for their outstanding achievements in advancing US-Arab commercial relations.
