Flooding south of Morocco

Rabat - The Moroccan government has set up on Sunday a task force in order to monitor the effects of floods hitting some southern regions of the Kingdom.

The task force is composed of the general secretaries of the ministries of the Interior, Health, Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics, Agriculture and Marine Fisheries, General Affairs and Governance, Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy, Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, as well as Representatives of the National Electricity and Water Office.

This mechanism is responsible for monitoring and assessing the situation in the flood-hit regions and coordinating joint actions for prevention and risk reduction, as well as taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and the protection of citizens and their properties, said the CP in a statement.

The task force will remain in place as long as the situation requires so.

The unprecedented floods that hit several regions of southern Morocco have so far claimed the lives of 32 people, while many others are accounted for missing.
