Rabat - A group of Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian pensioners in France were evicted Thursday from a hotel where they had lived for many years.
The group of more than thirty retirees, some of them above the age of 65, was evicted from a hotel in the French capital after owners served them with an eviction notice to make the way for what they described as "renovation work."
The group had reportedly refused to leave the hotel in spite of promises of "temporary" housing in another building.
Residents used to pay 520 Euros as a monthly fee to live in the hotel. However, the aforementioned hotel has become a "danger" to its residents due to problems in the delivery of water, electricity and the cleanness of rooms, according to media reports.
It is estimated that more than 65,000 Moroccan retirees are living in France. French law requires them not to leave the French territory for more than 183 days, in addition to having a stay in France as a condition to take advantage of health coverage.
