Rabat- On Monday at the Royal Palace in Casablanca, King Mohammad VI gave a royal audience to the Minister of Justice, Mustapha Ramid, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq and the President of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), Driss El Yazami. Emphasis was placed on the development of a draft law regarding abortion.
During the royal audience, Mohammed VI instructed the Ministers to draft a law taking into account both current developments in this area and the precepts of Islam.
"His Majesty King Mohammed VI gave us his high guidance for the development, in consultation and in full coordination with the concerned parties, of a law on the issue of illegal abortion that takes into account both the current developments in this area and the precepts of Sharia,"said the Minister of Justice and Liberties, Mustapha Ramid, after the royal audience.
President of the CNDH, Driss El Yazami, said that his organization would lead a series of consultations for the reform of legal provisions relating to the problem of illegal abortion. "The CNDH will immediately implement the high royal instructions in the perspective of a treatment of the problem of illegal abortion, a social hot topic,"he added.
Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, emphasized the need for a law that preserves the values of Moroccans and their religion. "One of the missions of the institution of Imarat Al-Mouminine (the ouma of faitful), which God has bestowed Morocco, is the preservation of religion and life," said Toufiq in a statement to the press.
He added, "The instructions of Commander of the Faithful have focused on Ijtihad, an effort of reflection that must lead the parties to achieve the development of a law that preserves the values of Moroccans their religion and their life."
