Fez - Microsoft is launching a program to hire autistic people in positions available at the registered office of the American company.
The software company will launch an ad hoc pilot program as a social responsibility program with a strategic interest in integrating employees with autism into the job market.
The announcement was revealed on the occasion of the World Day of Autism Awareness on April 3, on the company's blog, by the Vice President Mary Ellen Smith who is herself a mother of an autistic child.
Mary Ellen Smith said, "First, as a parent. I am the proud mom of Shawn, now 19, diagnosed with autism when he was four years old. Secondly, as a proud executive at Microsoft. A company that believes strongly in diversity."
"People with autism bring strengths that we need at Microsoft, each individual is different, some have amazing ability to retain information, think at a level of detail and depth or excel in math or code. It’s a talent pool that we want to continue to bring to Microsoft!" Mary Ellen added.
According to The Huffington Post, ten full time jobs are vacant in Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The pilot program will be in in collaboration with Specialisterne, a Danish company specializing in the professional integration of autistic people and whose employees work for companies in the computer field to successfully launch the program.
In 2013, German software company SAP, has launched a similar pilot program in India and Ireland. SAP hired "an initial group of people on the autism spectrum, with plans to expand to other countries." SAP aims to hire 650 people with autism by 2020.
