New York- The Moroccan Royal Armed Forces is planning to increase the number of women in its ranks, Akhbar Al Yaoum newspaper reported on Tuesday.
In the Moroccan army, women make up less than three per cent. As of 2014, the number of female recruits serving in the army did not exceed 6,000, including 381 (less than 10 per cent) in the ranks of officers.
According to the daily newspaper, Bouchaib Arroub, the general inspector of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces and the commander of the southern zone, is working on the promotion of gender equality within the different ranks of the Moroccan army.
The same source added that the Moroccan royal navy gave for the first time in its history the opportunity for women to become officers in naval engineering.
