Rabat - 45.7 per cent of Moroccans said they are satisfied with the way things are going in their personal lives, while 30 per cent said they are dissatisfied and 24.4 per cent said they are "somewhat" satisfied, a new study on life satisfaction has found.
According to a recent study conducted by the High Planning Authority (HCP), Moroccans residing in higher-income households are significantly more likely to say they are satisfied with their lives than those in lower- income households (especially those earning less than MAD 5,000 a month). In addition, Moroccans living in urban areas reported higher life satisfaction than their rural counterparts .
The study has found that differences in satisfaction change when factors like income levels, areas of residence, employment, health services, education are taken into account. For example, 64 per cent of respondents said they are dissatisfied with the current house they live in. The study suggests lack of space and noise as factors preventing half the Moroccan population from living comfortably.
Dissatisfaction also stems from having to live next to neighbors. According to the study, 26 per cent of Moroccans who say they are not happy with their current home put it down to the fact that they have to share their neighborhood with "bad neighbors."
The HCP report has also found that family relationships are slowly fading away within the society and Moroccans tend to be more isolated and less united.
As homes are getting less appealing and family bonds more fractured, the study added that religious venues such as mosques are among the scarce venues where Moroccans could feel comfortable.
