The Construction of the Rabat-Bourgereg River Bridge

Rabat - The Construction of the Rabat-Bourgereg River Bridge is expected to complete in June, says General Director of Autoroutes Du Maroc (ADM), Morocco's highways company.

Speaking on the sidelines of a visit to the construction site of the bridge that will connect the two banks of the Bourgereg River, ADM General Director Anouar Benazzouz said that construction work on the bridge should be completed in early June.

Dubbed the highest and longest cable-stayed bridge in the African continent, the bridge is expected to be operational pending the completion of the construction of the Rabat motorway bypass covering 41.5 km total length.

Zine-El-Abidine El Azouzzi, the responsible for the construction of the Rabat motorway bypass, said the cable-stayed bridge required a MAD 730 million investment. He added that the project is part of a contract program between the Moroccan state and Autoroutes Du Maroc for the period 2008-2015.

In addition to Moroccans, companies from China and France have also helped with the large-scale infrastructure over the Bourgereg River. Jointly financed by Autoroutes Du Maroc and the World Bank, the project uses Islamic infrastructure as a source of inspiration. It is also designed to improve safety and alleviate traffic.
