Rabat - In a move aimed at reducing Morocco's dependence on Algerian gas deliveries, Russian Energy Company Gazprom has promised to support the kingdom in its Liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, reports say.
According to daily newspaper Asabah, the state-owned company expressed readiness to accompany the implementation of the LNG in the kingdom.
Morocco announced in December plans to spend $4.6 billion in order to intensify the search for natural gas.
The project is aiming at producing 2,700 megawatts of electricity from Liquefied natural gas (LNG), in addition to improving the kingdom’s energy mix alongside renewables.
Energy Minister Abdelkader Amara held a meeting earlier this week with his Russian counterpart Alexander Novak in Moscow.
Both sides discussed Morocco’s national energy strategy in addition to investment prospects for Russian companies in renewable projects launched in Morocco.
