Moroccan Labor Unions Boycott Labor Day Celebrations

By Hicham Benlahcen

Rabat- For the first time in history no celebrations to be held on 1st May 2015 in Morocco.

The Moroccan labour unions have called for the boycott of Labour Day celebration this year as a strong protest against the government “irresponsible policy and the wage freeze.”

The decision that has been taken by the three major unions CDT (confederation démocratique du travail), UMT ( Union Marocain du Travail), and FDT ( Federation démocratique du Travail) , and was adopted by the rest of the labor unions in the country, will certainly shed light on the whole social situation in Morocco, and will have consequences if not taken seriously by the government.

In a short interview, Noubir Amaoui , the General Secretary of the CDT labour union, has openly criticized the government “unpopular policy” and has explained that the call for the boycott is a an “expression of anger” by the labour movement in Morocco.
