Moroccan Pilot Honored at 59th Anniversary of Moroccan Royal Forces

Rabat - Air Force Lieutenant Yassine Bahti whose F-16 warplane crashed in northern Yemen was honored Thursday at the Royal Palace in Casablanca during the ceremony commemorating the 59th anniversary of the establishment of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

In a speech read before King Mohammed VI, Abdelhak Lamrini, the palace spokesman, praised the work done by the pilot whose F-16 fighter jet crashed while on a mission for the coalition led by Saudi Arabia to restore legitimacy in Yemen.

Lamrini stressed that the 26-year-old pilot is known for "his moral qualities, discipline and dedication to work." He also mentioned that Lieutenant Yassine Bahti was once part of the Moroccan F-16 squadron made at the disposal of the US-led coalition against terror group the Islamic State (IS).

The ceremony, chaired by Général de corps d'armée Bouchaib Arroub, inspector general of the FAR and commander of the southern zone, was marked by the organization of a military parade in which took part the different units and detachments of the headquarters of the Royal Armed Forces' general staff.
