Taroudante- A 64-year-old Moroccan man sat for this year’s national baccalaureate exam, which began on Tuesday, June 9.

Ahmed Sedki, a 64-year-old retiree, did not go unnoticed when tests were distributed on the first day of the baccalaureate exams in the college of the Green March in Khouribga.

Probably the oldest candidate this year, Sedki wanted to realize his lifelong dream: to earn a baccalaureate certificate, which will allow him to enroll in Sharia Law (Islamic legislations) studies in the university.

Despite his age, Sedki is highly motivated to pursue his studies at the school of Islamic Law and Legislations if he successfully passes the baccalaureate exams.

"Age is not a hindrance to win over this challenge and to be able then, God willing, to get higher education in Sharia," he said.

Despite holding a degree in technical education from 1972, the candidate has decided to sit for the national exam, along with his grandchildren, with determination.

In a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), Sedki explained that since he was forced to retire by his employer, the Office Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP), he has felt an irrepressible desire to catch up and finally obtain his baccalaureate.

According to the Ministry of National Education, the number of Moroccan candidates who sat for the national baccalaureate exams this year has climbed to 507,413 candidates, marking an increase of 2.9% compared to 2014.
