Rabat - Masayminch movement published a picture of one of its members while drinking water during the first day of Ramadan in the courtyard of Hassan Tower.
Masayminch (we're not fating) Movement took to the esplanade of the Hassan Tower, a religious landmark in the capital Rabat, during the first day of Ramadan to protest against article 222 of the Moroccan penal code which forbids public rupture of fasting.
The Masayminch activist publicly ruptured fasting in the exact same location where two topless Femen activists protested against the criminalization of homosexuality in Morocco. It is also the scene where a Moroccan gay couple kissed each before they were arrested and jailed.
The group was founded by young Moroccans seeking to repeal article 222 which imprisons for up to six months people who break the fast in public place during Ramadan. They call for the right of Moroccan non-believers to eat, drink or smoke during the Muslim holy month.
Article 222 of Morocco's penal code states that anyone "breaking the fast in public place during Ramadan, without a reason accepted in Islam, can be imprisoned for up to six months and fined.
