Rabat - The Vice Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at Moulay Ismail University in Meknes was reportedly suspended after allegedly threatening a group of teachers with a knife on Thursday, July 2.
According to the Moroccan daily Al Massae, the Vice Dean interrupted a group of teachers who were preparing to hold a union meeting, threatening them with a knife.
In his statement to Al Massae, the Vice Dean claimed that he had not threatened anyone. He added that he had indeed used his knife to cut down a banner that he considered illegal since “it contained insulting words including "Get Out!”
According to the daily, the teachers who are members of the “National Union of Higher Education” said that this was not the first time that they had had issues with the behavior of the dean who previously called them "rats."
The suspended dean was said to be a victim of a political settling of accounts, and that the protest is the result of ideological battles facing the campus of the University.
The Ministry of Higher Education has decided to suspend the dean while an investigation being conducted to uncover the details of the incident.
