Casablanca- Good news for Casablanca residents: the economic capital has now its own think tank.
According to daily Aujourd’hui Le Maroc, the Wilaya of Grand Casablanca has recently announced the creation of a think tank. It comes as a “laboratory of ideas,” consisting of several actors producing studies and proposals often in the area of ??governance and local politics.
According to city officials, the creation of this think tank aims “to help a wide range of local actors to be more engaged in the dynamics of the region.” The think tank will ensure a more effective commitment “to inclusive participation and collective mobilization.”
"The mission of this think tank is to provide thoughts and ideas to achieve a real integrated strategy for the development of Morocco’s economic capital," a city official was quoted as saying by Aujourd’hui Le Maroc.
The think tank will consist of 8 groups covering specific themes. Mostapha Mellouk, president of the association “Carrières Centrales de Casablanca,” will be in charge of the group, “Casa, a space of living.”
Ghayet Ahmed, president of “Maroc Pluriel association,” will be in charge of the group, “Casa, a city for all.”
Saad Sharif Ouazzane, president of the University Hassan II Mohammedia, and Idriss Mansouri, president of the University Hassan II Casablanca, are respectively in charge of chairing the two groups, “Casa, city of knowledge” and “Casa, a model of devolution and decentralization.”
Omar Kabbaj, President of Interedec group, will chair the group, “Casa, a city that makes you dream.” Daddane Aziz, president of the Nagham association, Mohamed Benamour, Chairman of the Development and Solidarity Coucil, and Samir Aichaoui, Director of the Moroccan Center for Innovation, will respectively chair the groups, “Casa, a city of recreation, culture, and history”; “Casa, a place of economic prosperity,” and “Casa, a city of avant-gardism.”
The presidents will lead and coordinate the work of all the groups, which will be harnessed to reflect, analyze and design ideas and tools to meet the different challenges and constraints of the metropolis.
The eight groups will be formed in different occupational realms to ensure plurality and. A synthesis of the discussions held during the groups’ work, will be submitted to the Wali of the Grand Casablanca region, Khalid Safir, in March 2014.
