Cheb-Khaled-(2013-09-19)

Fez- Cheb Khaled, the king of Rai, has decided to leave Morocco for good and resettle in France with his wife and his daughters, according to RT Arabic.

The singer, who was granted Moroccan citizenship last August, decided to leave the country after allegedly having a dispute with his manager, who runs a number of his project in Morocco, the same source added.

Cheb Khaled officially became a Moroccan citizen on August 20th, on the occasion the 60th anniversary of the revolution of the Moroccan king and his people.

The author of the famous Aicha song came under harsh attacks from Algerian media after he obtained Moroccan citizenship.

In their analysis of the situation, some Algerian news outlets said that Cheb Khaled was a victim of “political exploitation” in a moment when the bilateral relations between the two countries suffer from mistrust and lack of cooperation.

Echourok newspaper, knows for being the mouthpiece of the Algerian government, described Kahlid’s obtaining of Moroccan citizenship as “betrayal” of his country given the political tensions between the two countries, especially over the Sahara issue.

Given the context in which this decision takes place, following the recent spat between Morocco and Algeria over the Sahara, one may question if the real reason that pushed Cheb Khaled is really his dispute with his manager or there is another reason related to the recent tension between the countries.
