Casablanca- Last August, the police managed to arrest Chinese criminals who attempted to assassinate a Chinese citizen at Casablanca’s Derb Omar. Recently, the police announced the dismantling of a mafia network, which is this time originally from Europe.

According to MAP, the National Team of Judicial Police managed, with the assistance of the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DST), to dismantle criminal networks active in the field of cross-border organized crime.

The same source added that among the 22 members arrested in this operation, some suspects were found to be Maghrebans bearing the nationality of a European country.

According to the same source, police investigations allowed the seizure of a firearm and 23 bullets stolen from the house of a police officer in Taza.

The suspects were also involved in four abduction operations and subjecting some victims to acute torture, which had led to the death of one of their victims on October 12, 2013, near Casablanca.

The suspects were also found to be involved in premeditated murder with a firearm against a Moroccan citizen on November 6 in Casablanca.

Police investigations also showed that the suspects had been plotting to assassinate seven people.

This year was clearly marked by an increase in mafia-related crimes. Last February, a Chinese merchant in Casablanca had been kidnapped by a Chinese gang as part of an organized crime, whereas another Chinese citizen had his fingers amputated by members of the same gang.

Six months later, fire shots were heard at the Boulevard Mohammed VI, in Casablanca. The victim was another Chinese trader seriously injured in reckoning operation. The perpetrators of the shooting were subsequently arrested.

In October, members from the same gang set up a bomb in a car bomb that belonged to another Chinese trader in Casablanca’s Derb Omar neighborhood. Fortunately, the explosion did not cause any casualties.

Last November, daily Al Massae reported the arrest in Marrakech of three French of Moroccan origins suspected of being involved in the fatal shootings that took place few weeks earlier.
