Casablanca- The Moroccan Ministry of Justice is tracking bribers and giving voice to their victims. Mr. Mustapha Ramid, Minister of Justice, has recently announced that a green line for witnesses and victims of corruption will soon be at their disposal.
According to daily La Vie Eco, Mr. Ramid has recently announced, during a meeting on the reform of justice, that a green line would soon be at the disposal of all witnesses and victims of corruption throughout the kingdom.
According to the Minister, the anti-corruption helpline would be entrusted to senior executives within the Criminal Division of the Ministry.
“The most convincing phone calls will get the chance to be addressed by the Prosecutor General,” Mr. Ramid was quoted by La Vie Eco as saying.
This initiative seeks to allow victims of corruption to report their cases to law officials, as well as compelling testimonies of witnessed cases of corruption.
In September 2013, Transparency International said that “Morocco urgently needs to pass legislation guaranteeing access to information in order to combat an entrenched culture of secrecy and corruption.”
Few months ago, the Moroccan government divulged a charter outlining a number of judicial reforms aimed at fighting and prosecuting corruption, such as the strengthening of the judiciary's independence.
Since it won the majority in the 2011 legislative elections, the PJD-led government, has been outspoken about the issue of corruption and promised to implement anti-corruption judicial reforms to combat the phenomenon.
Among many other social plagues, corruption and the culture of secrecy continue to gangrene Morocco’s most vital sectors, thus clogging its development and giving rise to other serious issues, such as joblessness and low-quality education.
