Taroudant- According to the Daily Mail, two British students of Moroccan origin, Nawal Msaad, 26, and her alleged co-conspirator Amal Elwahabi, 27, were charged with terror offences. The two young women are accused of trying to help “terrorists fighting in Syria.”
Msaad was arrested by Officers from Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command at Heathrow last Thursday with 20,000 euros ($27,000) hidden in her underwear. British authorities accuse Nawal Msaad of trying to smuggle the money to “terrorists fighting in Syria.”
“The court heard that the two Britons attempted to send the bundle of rolled-up notes to a suspected British jihadist fighting in Syria’s civil war,” the same source said.
British authorities are very concerned about the growing threat posed by campaigns on social media to entice teenagers to join jihadists fighting in the war-torn Syria, under pretexts of serving Islam.
“We’ve had a number of teenagers both from London and nationally who’ve been attempting to go to Syria. That’s boys and girls, unfortunately,” Richard Walton, The head of the Counter Terrorism Command, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.
It has been reported that many people travel to Syria with the express intention of fighting against Bashar al Assad regime.
Last December, a Moroccan father Ahmed al-Sha’ara took all his five sons, the youngest of them – Ossama- has only 13, to Syria to join up with forces fighting President Bashar al-Assad.
It is worth mentioning that Syria's civil war has claimed well over 100,000 lives and has driven 9.5 million people from their homes, creating a serious humanitarian crisis.
