Rabat - A cancer research company has recently launched a challenge for participants: reach the highest summit in North Africa, Mount Toubkal, alongside Quebec artist Véronique Lesago.
The trek, which will take place in June 2014, will include eight days of hiking in the mountains for a total of about 130km of trails. The peak of Mount Toubkal has an altitude of 4167m.
To participate in this physical challenge, participants must accumulate the sum of $8,000. 70% of the sum will be used exclusively to fund research on cancer, and 30% for administrative costs related to the trip expenses, according to the Canadian news website L’echo de Maskinonge.
Lesago said that she is very excited about participating in the Mount Toubkal trek.
“Each step taken in the context of this challenge raises money that allows significant advances in research and thus, helps to save lives. I take up this challenge in honor of those who survived and in memory of those who lost their battle,” she said.
In a Facebook status, Véronique explained that each participant will have a hero who will accompany them. “In my case, I’m lucky to have 3 heroes: my mom, my dad, and my grand mom, who are all (thankfully!) cancer survivors.”
