Rabat- The British Conservative Party expelled Chris Joannides, a tory councilor for sharing picture on Facebook where he compares children in burkas to bin bags.
The photo showed a woman and a child dressed in burkas standing next to two bin bags.
The picture’s caption read: “I saw her standing there and I told her she had three beautiful children. She didn’t have to get all pissed off and threaten me. It was an honest mistake!”, according to the UK daily Evening Standard of London.
In his response to this charge, Chris Joannides defended his comments as “blokeish banter”.
He said: “I was frustrated by Central Office’s decision which came after I was cleared by the police and his local party.”
Yet, his excuse didn’t convince his party, which expelled him for a period of 12 months.
A Tory Party spokesman said: “Chris Joannides is not endorsed as a candidate in the forthcoming local government elections. No appeal is permitted under party rules”.
