Rabat- Former Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres will not to take part in the Clinton Global Initiative Middle East and Africa conference from May 5-7 in Marrakech.
Shimon Peres's name has been removed from the list of attendees at the Clinton Global Initiative Middle East and Africa conference.
This comes at a time after which Hamas called on Morocco to reconsider the Peres’s planned visit, appealing the Moroccan government to reject all forms of normalization with Israel.
“We have hopes that the king and the government of Morocco will reconsider Peres’s visit to their country,” Hamas said in a statement carried by international news outlets.
On Thursday a group of Moroccan lawyers lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Justice and called for the arrest of the former Israeli President upon his arrival in Morocco.
The Moroccan government hasn't replied to Hamas's appeal thus far.
Still, it's not clear whether Hamas's pressure was behind the removal of Shimon Peres's name from the list of conference attendees.
